The hosting organization offers quality accommodation (buildings and camp grounds) for groups and individuals, in priority to youth groups. It has a major asset: its pure nature. Respect for the environment is very important here. As are adventure, playing in the woods, forest workshops, educational, adventurous and sports activities… You’ll never have a dull moment here.
It was once a military domain. Today, freedom is the dominant force here. Whatever you do: we will do everything possible to boost your creativity and stimulate own initiative.
The domain is 230 hectares large and has 17 buildings and 12 camping grounds. There is an educational program so that guests and groups can discover, explore and experience the natural environment of the domain. Our priority target are groups of young people between 3 and 30 years. Most of them are schools or youth organisations, but there are also sport and socio-cultural associations. The domain has a lot to offer to the guests: a beautiful natural environment with almost no motorized traffic, educational and adventurous activities, accomodation and camp grounds, campfire circles, a theater, a bar, a restaurant, a swimming pond, a delivery service, …The activities of the organisation are in line with our main objective: providing good maintenance of the lodges, giving people a warm welcome, preparing meals with attention for ecological principles, creating an active and educational qualitative programme outdoors. The staff consists of 50 employees. They are supported by around 50 volunteers.
Learning opportunities for the volunteer:
§ – getting to know the different aspects (organization,…) of youth work in Belgium
§ – learning how to work in a team (by setting up together small scale projects)
§ – learning how to guide different youth groups and how to prepare activities/workshops
§ – getting to know himself/herself better and increasing self-confidence
§ – respect for (inter)cultural diversity and different people
Role of the volunteer:
§ – increasing the interculturality in the organization
§ – being himself/herself but in to other values and norms
§ – giving new impulses and ideas
§ – supporting the daily activities of the different services: reception, information, outdoor activities, accommodation, education, etc.
The most important attitudes and skills are: enjoy being in the nature, enjoy working with youth groups, sense of responsibility, flexible attitude, great independence , willing to learn, able to work independently and to take initiative.
The candidates mmust be between 18 and 30 years old and able to communicate in English.
We will study carefully all application and selected candidates will be invite for Skype interview. The selection of volunteers will take place in the coming weeks.
For the selection of the volunteers we will need:
– Europass CV with picture (made in the last month) with skype name included
– Motivational letter, writing that your sending organisation will be “Building Bridges”. We ask all candidates to send a specific letter of motivation – why they want to volunteer with us rather than just a general EVS one. The volunteer is chosen according to his/her motivation and interest to the project and to the activities. It will be paid special attention to cover letters.
