Name of event

YOUTH FOR AUTISM.

An international event created to raise awareness on autism related issues and to promote the participation of young people and youth workers inside the Autism community.

Dates

1-4 April 2016

Location

Treviso, Italia

Introduction

Recent researches show that the estimated number of children identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) continues to rise, and the picture of ASD in communities has changed. Autism is reported to occur in all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups and the incidence nowadays is about 1 newborn in 68. This rising number of cases identifies a major issue for our europoean community.

Hosting organisation

Our vision implicates a society in which ASD subjects can live their lives with dignity, in a safe and preserved environment. We are situated in Treviso in the north of Italy but our networks extend throughout the whole nation; in fact we have affiliated branches in Friuli, Piedmont, Campania, Sicily and Lombardy. We are also official partners with Autism Europe and support many of their projects. Our foundation gives assistance to more than 1100 families through constant support and the establishment of numerous social inclusion activities.

Future is collaboration

We firmly believe that organizations like ours belong to young people, and that our future depends on the creation of synergies and cooperation between different entities and stakeholders. We have the chance to grow and collaborate at a european level in order to guarantee a better assistance to people with fewer opportunities and their families.

The event

We are planning a 4 day event in Treviso, where different partners from similar organizations will have the chance to meet, discuss, create networks, collaborate on a project, benefit from trainings and seminars and raise awareness on the autism cause. The event will take place during the World Autism Awareness Day and will be the first official european meeting taking place on this particular day. Particular support will be given to young people and youth workers, offering them the opportunity to actively participate in society and develop a sense of European citizenship and identity.

Participants

We are looking for organizations active in the fields of assistance and education of young people with fewer opportunities to join us in the 4 day event. Step by step we will create a stable and effective network of partners, we will raise awareness on on autism and other disabilities, trainers and youthworkers will have the chance to take part to an innovative traing course on non – formal communication methods. The event should involve at least 2 participants under 30 years of age per organization.

Programme

Education, training and youth activities play a key role in providing people of all ages with the necessary means

to participate actively in the labour market and in society at large. Projects under this Action promote

transnational mobility activities targeting learners (students, trainees, apprentices, young people and volunteers),

and staff (professors, teachers, trainers, youth workers, and people working in organisations active in the

education, training and youth fields) and aiming to raise participants’ awareness and understanding of other cultures and countries, offering them the opportunity to build networks of international contacts, to actively participate in society and develop a sense of European citizenship and identity.
