Voluntariado sobre educación rural en Rumanía

Compartir:

Project name

Life Skills for Rural Education – EVS project in Romania

Dates

March 2016 – February 2017

Information

The project answers the need of students in rural areas to learn foreign languages, to experience different learning methods, to learn by playing, to develop basic skills they can use in everyday life. For example they will have the opportunity to gain English language skills starting with primary and secondary school, therefore, even if they will not continue with going to high school, they will have basic knowledge of English. At the same time, the project brings an opportunity to understand new cultures, to learn from diversity and to gain confidence in expressing themselves in another language. What is more, the children that will experience the interaction with the foreign volunteers will gain a new understanding of volunteerism.

The project will reinforce their motivation to be active in their communities. Schools in the villages tackled by the project use less interactive educational methods than in the cities. Children have almost no access to internet, computers or photo/video devices. They do not have labs for special classes, they use no experiments in learning and they have no opportunities to join optional classes during school or in their free time. The work of the volunteers in the community will bring opportunities for alternative education during school schedule and after classes, for their free time. The children will be able to experiment: science fairs and competitions, sports activities of different types, painting classes, clay modeling, dancing, education through games, origami, storytelling.

More than 80% of school classes, even in primary schools, involve learning by listening the lecture of the teacher. It becomes harder for a child to learn something useful, especially when, in some villages, classes are mixed together due to lack of students or lack of school attendance. The project proposes to bring children back to school, to motivate them to learn by involving them in the process with the help of foreign volunteers.

Gracias
