Sobre los intercambios con becas para Italia

The project is mainly focused on immigration, social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, solidarity and active citizenship and it is meant to young people wanting to contribute to a more tolerant society.

This Youth Exchange will take place in Italy, in the province of Foggia, near a symbolic place regarding the immigration issue, called “Grand Ghetto”. Such an incredible ghetto has been developed and populated only by immigrants, definitely marginalized by the local community, during the last 20 years. Today, it is one of the biggest marginalized and exploited immigrants ghettos in Europe.

During the exchange the participants will have the opportunity to know this reality and learn about the daily problems of the immigrants: lack of rights and protection, violation of fundamental rights, the exploitation of labour. They will mostly learn trough the associations and other NGOs active in supporting and helping the ghetto residents.

The goal of the exchange is to in-form EU citizens regarding the immigration issues in order to reduce xenophobic prejudices.

The aim is to increase young people’s awareness about the coexistence in a multicultural society by providing tools to make them active participants in the dissemination of information and to stimulate other youngsters.

During the Youth Exchange we’ll mainly use non-formal methods such as: informal ethnography, working groups, debates, cine-forum, learning by doing, reflection groups.

The activities will include:

o Visits of different NGOs working about the topic of immigration (i.e. the Association “Ghetto OUT”) or debates with their activists, invited to present their experience.

o Visit to the Ghetto with staff people from associations well knowing the place (like EMERGENCY NGO’s staff).

o Spend some time in the Association Ghetto Out learning what some ex-residents are trying to do in order to live in a sustainable way outside the ghetto (like artistic manufacturing or fruit and vegetable bio cultivation).

o Ethnographic interviews to ghetto residents or ex-residents and to the local community; comparing the results with the information we usually receive from the media.

o Implementation of an informational blog that will disseminate the materials and the experience.

o Exchange of information on countries of origin, multicultural evenings (create dishes), dialectical dialogue on the perception of their country and of others.

Alojamiento

The place we chose for this Youth Exchange is a village near Foggia, a city in the north of the wonderful Puglia Region. We chose a place not far from the area of «Grand Ghetto», (as we already said, one of the biggest marginalized and exploited immigrant Ghettos in Europe).

The village, called Emmaus, was chosen also because it’s quite near to the base of «Ghetto OUT «. This Association, founded by the exploited immigrants leaving the Ghetto, will be a focus of our project.

You will be accommodated in multiple rooms (most of them are 4 person rooms). Shower, toilet and any service will be provided. Just remember to bring bed linen as well as towels, and be ready to share your room with a participant from different nationality. One of the main topic of the project is the Inter-Culture, don’t you remember?

We will have 3 meals per day and we will also provide vegetarian food.
